How Remote Computer Help Works
A way to get help for many Windows, software, internet, and email problems without anyone needing to be at your computer.
Remote help is a method of service for appropriate problems β not a replacement for all repair work. Not every problem can be handled remotely, and remote resolution is never guaranteed before diagnosis. Tell us what's happening first, and we'll figure out together whether it's a remote-capable problem.
What remote computer help is
Remote computer help means a technician connects to your computer over the internet, with your permission, to diagnose or work on a problem β without anyone needing to be physically at your machine. You watch what's happening on your screen the whole time, and you can end the session whenever you want.
It's best suited to software-side problems: Windows errors, update issues, software conflicts, Wi-Fi and internet problems on the computer, virus and malware removal, email setup, and many performance problems. It's not a fit for hardware problems that require physical access β a cracked screen, a failing drive, memory upgrades, or a computer that won't power on.
Problems that may qualify for remote help
These are categories that are often remote-capable. We'll confirm whether your specific problem fits after we talk.
Problems that generally require physical access
What you need before a remote session
- 1A working internet connection on the computer we're working on (or a temporary alternate path, like a wired connection or a phone hotspot).
- 2A computer that can boot far enough to run a remote-support tool. If it won't boot at all, a remote session may not be possible.
- 3The ability to follow a few on-screen instructions β clicking a link, opening a program, or reading an error message to us.
- 4A few minutes to talk first so we understand the problem before anyone connects to anything.
How the process works
You tell us what's wrong
Describe the problem through our contact page or on the phone. The more detail β error messages, when it started, what you've tried β the better.
We figure out whether it's remote-capable
From your description, we can often tell whether the problem fits a remote session or needs hands-on work. If we're not sure, we'll talk through it with you.
If it's remote-capable, we set up the session
With your permission, we send a link or walk you through connecting. You watch the screen the whole time.
We diagnose and explain before changing anything
We look at what's happening, tell you what we're finding, and explain what we'd do β and what it costs β before making changes.
After the session
We summarize what was done and what to watch for. If the problem comes back or turns out to be hardware, we help you figure out the next step.
Privacy & security
- You grant permission for each session β we can't connect without you starting it.
- You can see everything we do on your screen in real time.
- You can end the session at any time, instantly.
- We explain what we're doing and why before making changes.
- The session ends when we're done β we don't retain ongoing access to your computer.
Remote resolution is never guaranteed before diagnosis. If we start a session and discover the problem needs physical access, we'll tell you and stop β you won't be charged for work that couldn't be done.
